Geehy APM32F103VB Successfully Certified IEC61508 SIL3

Geehy APM32F103VB series MCU certified IEC61508 SIL2 in April 2020. With the ultimate pursuit of product quality, after 7 months, this series certified IEC61508 SIL3 (the domestic chip of its kind to obtain this certification). This certification is mainly for the system safety integrity assessment and verification in the product life cycle definition stage, covering CPU, ROM, RAM, register, ADC, clock, and other modules, as well as functional safety certification of chips and packages.

 

What is IEC61508?

IEC61508 (Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-related Systems) is an international standard for functional safety in the industrial field published by the International Electrotechnical Commission in 2000. The standard defines a complete safety life cycle including analysis, realization, operation, and other processes, to avoid safety problems such as systematic design failure and random hardware failure and reduce the risk to a tolerable level.

 

What is SIL?

SIL (Safety Integrity Level) is the probability that the safety system can successfully realize the required safety functions under the specified conditions and time. SIL certification is based on IEC 61508 standard and is a third-party evaluation, verification, and certification to evaluate and confirm the safety integrity level of equipment.

 

What is the difference between SIL2 and SIL3?

The higher the safety integrity level is, the higher the probability of implementation of the required safety function is, and the lower the failure probability is.

 

The safety integrity level is divided into two modes:

1. In low-requirement operation mode

2. In high-requirement or continuous operation mode
